This critically acclaimed North American tour, directed by three-time Tony Award winner Jack O’Brien (Hairspray, The Coast of Utopia), brings a fresh, vibrant production of the timeless classic to stages across the country.
Celebrating the 65th anniversary of the original 1959 Broadway production, this tour stars Cayleigh Capaldi (Titanique) as Maria and Kevin Earley as Captain von Trapp, with Tony nominee Christiane Noll (Ragtime) as Mother Abbess. Experience the unforgettable score—including “My Favorite Things,” “Do-Re-Mi,” “Climb Ev’ry Mountain,” and “Edelweiss”—performed live on stage!
Director Jack O’Brien—recipient of the 2024 Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement—previously helmed the 2015–2016 national tour. As he noted: “We felt as if we were awakening Sleeping Beauty herself…a version of this classic virtually unknown before, and yet more dramatic, more detailed, more rapturous, and more touching than any we had experienced.”

The Sound of Music is the final collaboration between legendary composer Richard Rodgers and lyricist Oscar Hammerstein II. Based on Maria Augusta von Trapp’s autobiography The Story of the Trapp Family Singers, the musical tells the story of a spirited young postulant who becomes governess to the seven children of widowed Austrian naval Captain Georg von Trapp in 1938—just as Nazi Germany annexes Austria.
The original Broadway production opened November 16, 1959, at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre starring Mary Martin as Maria and Theodore Bikel as Captain von Trapp. The 1965 film adaptation starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer won five Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and remains one of the most commercially successful movie musicals of all time.
The Hippodrome Theatre at the France-Merrick Performing Arts Center is Baltimore’s premier venue for touring Broadway productions. Located in the heart of downtown Baltimore’s Bromo Arts District, the beautifully restored 2,286-seat theater has hosted Broadway’s biggest shows since reopening in 2004. The venue offers excellent sightlines, historic architecture, and a truly magical atmosphere for experiencing live theater.
